Basic Function
Analyze requirements, create specifications, build, test, and implement operational, analytical and statistical reports using Business Intelligence to meet the organizational reporting needs. An in-depth knowledge of healthcare data and specified areas of data modeling is required to produce accurate and timely reporting.
Scope
Manage data to inform and facilitate improvement of the quality, safety and efficiency of care delivered throughout the JHAH system. This position will have data management, analysis, design a workflow, reporting responsibilities as well as integrates business science, computer science and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom within the department with the goal of delivering timely, efficiently and effectively. Incumbent works under supervision in the assigned area.
Principal Contacts
Internal: All department’s staff members, physicians, nursing staff, other health and allied health staff, team lead and team members.
External: Contacts with other organization for reporting, surveys requirements and projects if authorized.
Principal Duties
- Demonstrate advanced/proficient informatics analysis skills to plan, manage, problem solve, mitigate risk in the deployment of applications and work process transformations through governance navigation (decision making/policy), workflow and information system management.
- Acquire data from disparate sources. Merge varying datasets into a common definitional structure while ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and timely availability. Understand and interpret current and proposed or draft measure definitions, specifications, and collection methodologies of clinical and administrative data from different sources, including data for reporting to governments or to various accreditation or oversight organizations.
- Validate the structural integrity of data sets. Clean, transform, validate, or model data to support accurate decision making. Ensure data sets are collected by trained data abstractors with high inter-rater reliability. Compare data from different systems and use automated data validation methods, such as checking for outliers, to reduce the risk of translational error.
- Store data efficiently by maintaining data architecture, definitions, dictionaries, and models for analytics database.
- Ensure the protection of confidential and sensitive data. Understands, interpret, and follow employer’s data security policies and describe methods and tools used to meet policy requirements. Describe methods and tools for data de- identification, file encryption, e-mail security, and protection of external data sources such as personal health monitors.
- Understand standard administrative health, clinical, and quality data elements: international classification of diseases (ICD) clinical modifications and procedure classification systems and current procedural terminology (CPT)
- Prevent business interruption by ensuring continuity based on valid and reliable documentation. Understand the documentation needed to ensure appropriate change control and generate detailed documentation to ensure clarity and reproducibility (e.g., data sources, time periods of data used, inclusions, exclusions, and explanatory footnotes) of analytic findings by a different practitioner.
- Develop and maintain databases for small-scale analytic projects that are executed solely by the quality department. Perform basic data extraction, translation/transformation and loading activities, including data normalization, standardization, quality validation and integration.
- Assist in coordination between different Project Managers and act as a liaison with all stakeholders.
- Assist in preparation of charts, graphs and organizes relevant statistic.
- Provide other duties and responsibilities as assigned by team leader.
Education
Bachelors of Science in Health Informatics, Health Information Management or equivalent
Experience
Up to 5 years of relevant experience.
Certifications/Other requirements as applicable
- Ability to perform statistical analysis
- Good time management skills
- Excellent command of English
- Excellent presentation skills
