Associate Sterile Processing Technician - Dhahran

Basic Function

Performs a variety of technical and non-technical functions under the direction of a Technician. Assists in all areas in Sterile processing Services (SPS) and Operating Room (OR) that require SPS Aide support.

Scope

Under the direction of a Senior Technician, receives, decontaminates, sorts, wraps, sterilizes, stores and distributes medical surgical supplies and equipment. Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and instruments. May be assigned to other duties as required in SPS. Is a shift worker as required. Work is performed in any (JHAH) Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare SPS units.

Principal Contacts

Routine daily contact with SPS staff, hospital and auxiliary medical personnel. Occasional contact with clinicians and customers. Daily contact with SPS manager.

Principal Duties

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA FOR EACH OF THE PRINCIPAL DUTIES ARE MAINTAINED BY THE NURSING SERVICES DEPARTMENT.

  • Works under direction of a registered nurse, or Senior Technician.
  • Maintains current knowledge base and seeks new learning experience.
  • Performs role in a professional manner.
  • Receives, checks, logs in and decontaminates used instruments and equipment.
  • Sorts, checks, wraps and sterilizes reusable instruments and equipment.
  • Retrieves par level carts, fills par level carts and delivers them to the units.
  • Checks the storage shelves, orders supplies and restocks the shelves. Checks inventory daily, or as per established schedule on specific assigned par level carts.
  • Receives ordered supplies, checks the receiving document to identify shortages or damaged items.
  • Fills out work request for equipment needing repair and forwards request to maintenance and/or biomed.
  • Checks all sterile non-expendable items for outdates.
  • Retrieves contaminated articles and delivers them to decontamination area.
  • Performs all duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Attends in service programs (Unit and Hospital based), and complies with the Unit and annual mandatory competencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient record and activities.
  • Learns and keeps current with the name of equipment, supplies, and pharmacological agents and is familiar with location of same.
  • Maintains awareness of safety hazards and takes necessary action to prevent accidents.
  • Treats customers (guests, patients, physicians and other employees) with courtesy, respect and caring behaviors.
  • Presents a positive image of JHAH through professional appearance and behavior.
  • Takes appropriate action upon noticing a problem; does not wait for someone else to do it.
  • Frequently checks for and reads all communication/minutes.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with nursing personnel and other health care disciplines.
  • Participates in staff development programs to enhance personal growth and development.
  • Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested.
  • Maintains acceptable work standards.

Education

  • 12 years including high school and one year Life/Health Science training course in a hospital care setting; or
  • 10 years including high school plus completion of a 2 years Midwifery course;  or
  • Completed Bachelor in Nursing training but is not a licensed nurse in their home country.   

Experience

 

Up to 3 years  experience  in field of patient care.

Certifications/Other requirements as applicable

Must be able to communicate and comprehend English.
