Job Description Summary

The Cytotechnologist is Specialized in examining cells under a microscope to detect signs of disease, particularly cancer. They prepare and analyze cellular samples from body fluids, tissues, and other specimens to identify abnormalities, infections, or malignancies in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.

    Operational Roles & Responsibilities

    • Verify specimen processing to help ensure no malignant or suspicious cells are overlooked
    • Use anatomic Pathology module of Laboratory Information System for processing specimens and entering results of examinations
    • Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures ultrasoundguided aspiration and needle aspirations in order to Assure that proper and sufficient samples is obtained
    • Receive a variety of smears and specimens for processing Process all kinds of cytology specimens Examine under a microscope slide body fluids and internal body surfaces to determine presence or absence of malignant cells
    • Note specimens with suspicious or malignant cells and refer findings to a Pathologist for further review
    • Bring problems beyond scope of work to the attention of Manager andor director maintaining operational excellence
    • Perform internal and external CAP survey when assigned by the lab Manager or leader
    • Maintain lab accreditation requirements by CAP CBAHI and JCI

    Minimum Education Required

    Bachelor degree in Medical Technology and or Bachelor of science in Cytotechnology.

    Professional Certifications Required

    Saudi Commission for health specialties valid registration (SCFHS) as medical technologist and or Cytotechnologist. ASCP in Cytology or IAC (international Academy of Cytology) is required

    Years of Experience

    Minimum 5 years of professional experience post.-graduate experience in Clinical laboratory as cytotechnologist.
