Basic Function
The inventory planner conducts inventory planning and management activities for the assigned materials (medical or non-medical). He/she ensures availability of materials to meet the end users’ needs while assessing demand activity in order to optimize inventory cost.
Scope
The inventory planner determines inventory strategy and develops appropriate planning methodologies for the material categories under responsibility, in line with the company’s processes and policies.
Analyzes trends in spend across the organization to design robust inventory plans capable of fulfilling end user needs and identifying and resolving any discrepancies in inventory information.
Principal Contacts
The Inventory planner reports to the Sr. Inventory Planner.
Internal interactions:
- Regularly with end users to define material stock levels and discuss other related topics of inventory management
- Regularly with warehouse managers/coordinators to coordinate on inventories and material availability (e.g. cycle count results, returns, etc.)
- Regularly with tactical buyers to coordinate on delivery times and other information required for inventory management
- Ad hoc with process specialist to support the identification of improvement areas within existing policies and procedures
- Ad hoc with IT partner to identify changes within existing and new systems
Principal Duties
Main duties are as following:
Stock Reordering
- Analyze and adjust safety levels, reorder levels, maximum levels and economic reorder levels based on comprehensive analyses and approval from end users
- Review and classify inventory based on movement and criticality of material (e.g. fast-moving, slow-moving) and take action to control inventory levels as per company’s guidelines and policies
- Ensure timely availability of items as well as optimized stock levels in coordination with end users as per department’s policies and procedures
Replenishment
- Oversees MRP to replenish stock materials below reorder point
- Review MRP and PRs that have been automatically generated by the system
- Review PRs and checks availability in stock
- Ensure that PRs (specifically for critical items) are available to Procurement in time to keep schedules
Stock Monitoring
- Segment inventory and conduct analyses including checking slow-moving items and coordinate with end users for possible obsolesce or surplus
- Manage insurance and repairable items and take necessary action as per department’s procedure
- Organize yearly and cycle inventory counting, understand root causes for discrepancies and report to Inventory manager and procurement
- Verify physical count results and update system accordingly
Operational Responsibilities
- Meet established department KPI, SLA and individual annual goals and metrics
- Maintain all safety and security measures per organizational policies
Education
Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent
Experience
5 years of relevant experience, in inventory management/material handling
Certifications/Other requirements as applicable
- Strong organizational, verbal communication and writing skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and work ethic
- Spoken English is required. Computer literate in MS Word & Excel.
