Inventory Planning Specialist - IP

Basic Function

The Inventory Planning Specialist conducts oversee and guides the execution of the Inventory management activities in line with best practices to meet the requirements of end users to ensure alignment with the Materials Management and Center of Excellence functions on methodologies to be followed with the activities conducted by the Inventory planner.


The Inventory Planning Specialist defines the planning process guidelines and acts as escalation instance for topics requiring more senior intervention

The scope of the work is all supply chain planning and execution with the overall objective to ensure goods availability to end users as well as maximize margin within the constraints set by service level requirements, strategic plans, and physical limitations.

Principal Contacts

The Inventory Planner Specialist reports to the Head of material handling.

Internal interactions:

  • Regularly with end users to identify material requirements and to establish priorities to prevent interruptions
  • Regularly with warehouse managers/coordinators to coordinate on inventories and material availability (e.g. cycle count results, returns, etc.)
  • Ad hoc with process specialist to support the identification of improvement areas within existing policies and procedures
  • Ad hoc with IT partner to identify changes within existing and new systems

Principal Duties

Roles include but are not limited to:

Operational Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the inventory strategy based on available methodologies
  • Coordinate with end users, Warehousing teams and Purchasing teams to ensure the availability of all materials
  • Lead Inventory Management planners in analyzing material usage (e.g., ABC analysis) and defining / adjusting reorder levels and maximum levels
  • Oversee inventory replenishment and cycle counting process development and execution and ensure inventory discrepancies are addressed
  • Defines and regularly reviews rules for stock monitoring and analysis to be followed by the team
  • Supports the team in checking slow moving items and coordinating with end users for possible obsolesce or surplus
  • Ensure inventory database is managed and maintained through the inventory management team
  • Identify initiatives to improve material fulfillment strategy and planning

Other Activities

  • Provides periodical and ad-hoc reports on material consumption, material transfers, issue / receipt performance, etc.
  • Prepares improvement initiatives in cooperation with Inventory planners and with Category management department
  • Meet established department KPI, SLA and individual annual goals and metrics. 
  • Maintain all safety and security measures per organizational policies.


  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent;  
  • Master's degree is preferred


  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, in inventory management/material handling
  • At least 3 years of experience in a management role

Certifications/Other requirements as applicable

  • Financial and analytical acumen
  • Strong organizational, verbal communication and writing skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and work ethic
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge of HR Systems and procedures,
  • Spoken English is required. Computer literate in MS Word & Excel.
