Basic Function

Provides attending Physician services to newborn patients and directs preventive care of these patients according to approved procedures as a part of an integrated program of curative and preventive services.


Incumbents will be responsible for attending patients in the age group from birth to the first 7 days or more if necessary including cases of all degrees of complexity, according to approved standards of medicine.Work is performed to meet established medical ethical and legal rules in the field of Neonatology and by observing practices and procedures as required by Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare. This embraces the medical standards required in such fields as infectious diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, central nervous system, hematology, endocrinology and other field of neonatology. Reports to the Head Neonatologist. Works under the administrative direction of the Head Neonatologist. Supervision is minimal due to the nature of the work involved. The majority of professional problems encountered are solved without reference to the Head Neonatologist, who is informed of unusual problems of actions taken regarding unusual cases.

Principal Contacts

Has frequent contact with patients’ families in conducting the duties of the position. Professional contacts are made with other Physicians and Nursing Staff to exchange information and solve problems.

Principal Duties

A. Performs the professional duties of a Neonatologist.

B. Makes daily rounds related to assigned patients in the hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, follow-up Clinic and the normal newborn nursery; performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of Neonatology. Orders laboratory examinations and X-rays, determines diagnosis, prescribes nursing and dietary care necessary, orders or applies such preventive measures as required.

C. Provides in-patient care to the newborn and attends difficult delivery or cesarean section deliveries in adherence to established JHAH policy.

D. Serves as a specialist in Neonatology providing consultative services to the other Medical Services. Provides technical assistance with Pediatric patients. Determines the eligibility of neonatology admissions to Dhahran Health Center and Designated Facility Hospitals.

E. Makes recommendations to supervisor regarding the medical repatriation of newborn patients.

F. Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to keep current on latest techniques and procedures of neonatal intensive care.

G. Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians’ conference, or other committees as requested.

H. To participate in out-patient to see well and sick babies until one year of age.

I. Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested.


Two (2) years of practice in the field of Neonatology and proof of expertise in the discipline of neonatology.

Other requirements as applicable

  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
  • Ability to adjust to group practice in an industrial environment.
