Job Description Summary

As a Senior Genetic Lab Specialist, he/she will be responsible for performing and supervising diagnostic genetic testing, ensuring quality assurance, supporting laboratory development, and assisting in the interpretation and reporting of genetic results in accordance with hospital policies and national/international standards.

  • Participate in establishing new key performance indicators that monitor and improve operational performance in order to meet organizational strategic objectives.
  • Participate in the annual quality management system evaluation, writing new operational manuals.
  • Participate in the establishment or verification of laboratory test performance specifications and selection of test methodology as well as the enrollment and participation in proficiency testing.
  • Participate in the establishment of a quality control program to monitor ongoing test performance.

Operational Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform various molecular testing procedures include but not limited to PCR, NGS, FISH, RT-PCR, Karyotyping…etc.
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance, or reporting of test results.
  • Practice problem-solving skills.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from JHAH laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Responsible for training of new hire JHAH laboratory staff with knowledge transfer.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient’s files and individual logs.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Documentation of quality assurance and controls, maintenance logs, results entered into a Laboratory information management system (LIMS).
  • Complying with safety, qulity control, and accreditation requirements (CAP, CBAHI, JCI).

Minimum Education Required

  • Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, genetics, molecular biology or Laboratory Sciences program.
  • Master Degree of Molecular Genetics or Molecular Pathology from accredited college or university is preferred.

Professional Certifications Required

  • SCFHS Classification and Saudi MOH Licensed
  • American Pathologist Board of Certification (BOC) ASCP or equivalent is preferred

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in a licensed medical facility/Clinical laboratory as Lab Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Technology Specialist/Clinical Lab Technology Sub-Specialty
  • Including minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in PCR, qPCR Sanger, NGS, and/or Microarray
