Senior Patient Safety Coordinator

Basic Function

Expert at application of patient safety concepts, facilitator of selected teams for patient safety projects, utilizes LEAN principles in selected project work, Able to educate staff on patient safety concepts, Team STEPPS, Comprehensive Patient Safety Unit (CUSP), and high reliability principles. Role models patient safety culture in all work and contact with others. Coordinates Armstrong Institute visits.


This is a leadership position for Patient Safety and therefore has a wide scope throughout all JHAH facilities and works with all levels of staff.

Principal Contacts

Reports to the Chief Quality & Patient Safety. Interacts with all levels of staff including C suite level.

Principal Duties
  • Leads JHAH Patient safety education and development programs.
  • Coordinates Armstrong Institute visits that interface with ongoing patient safety project work within areas assigned by CQPSO.
  • Teaches all levels of staff concepts of patient safety on an ongoing basis.
  • Builds positive relationships with line and management staff.
  • Facilities system wide rollout of CUSP (comprehensive unit based safety program) and other projects and  develops a communication plan.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the field of patient safety for all levels of staff.

Master’s Degree in Nursing Healthcare related field required

  • Minimum of 10 years acute hospital experience with evidence of progressive responsibilities,
  • Significant experience with facilitation of teams and projects.
  • Lean methodology experience.
Certifications/Other requirements as applicable
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
  • Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS)
  • Green Belt certified
