Basic Function

Family practice physicians treat injuries and illnesses that occur in everyday life in an ambulatory setting. The family practitioner is generally the first point of contact for patients seeking health care. The family practitioner works as the coordinator and director of patient care to insure that care is not duplicated and that treatment plans are working. They provide a comprehensive approach to integrated and complete healthcare.


The family practice physician will be assigned to a JHAH outpatient facility which may include practice in the Emergency Medical Services or any of the district facilities based on their competencies, operational needs and manpower demands.  Day to day supervision and assignment of duties will be overseen by the Unit Supervisor and/or Chief of Primary Care Services. Quality reviews and routine check of accuracy and completeness of patient care to include diagnoses and treatment will be conducted on an ongoing basis. Advice and consultation is obtained from the Unit Supervisor, Chief of Primary Care Services or other specialists in treating different cases. The majority of professional problems encountered are solved without reference to the Supervisor.

Principal Contacts

Has daily contact with patients in the clinics, families, nurses and other physicians in order to achieve the goal of coordinated and comprehensive care.

Occasional public and community contact through communicating policy changes, revisions, and/or introduction of new work rules.

Principal Duties

  • Performs the professional duties of a family practice physician in a manner consistent with his/her training and in accordance with the privileges delineated by the credentials committee.
  • Reviews and interprets patient information and records a medical history, performs a physical examination, orders tests as indicated, makes a diagnosis, determines the appropriate treatment and develops a comprehensive plan of care in collaboration with the patient.  Counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care as well as educating patients in disease prevention, ordering vaccinations and coordinating the patient’s ongoing health maintenance. The Family Practitioner refers patients with more serious conditions to specialists as required and oversees and coordinates the patients overall plan of care. Performs minor procedures such as joint injections, incision and drainage and other minor procedures in accordance with the physician’s delineation of privileges.
  • Provides complete and accurate documentation of diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of the patients visit.
  • Participates in peer review and performance improvement activities as well as other professional activities. Attends continuing medical education (CME) meetings as time permits.  Provides patient care in accordance with the best available evidence based practices.


A minimum of 2 years exclusive experience in family practice medicine since residency

  • Proficient in English.
  • Good physical and mental condition
  • Current medical license from country of origin. (if applicable)
  • Arabic language is preferred
